SIZING
The best way to choose a motorcycle helmet size is to start by measuring your head. Use a fabric or plastic measuring tape or a string and yardstick or ruler. Wrap the measuring tape or string around your head from a point about one inch above your eyebrows and keep the tape parallel to the surface you are standing on. It’s usually easiest to do this with the help of a friend.
To determine correct fit, check the following:
- When the chinstrap is fastened and snug, a properly fit motorcycle helmet will move your scalp as you try to move the helmet on your head.
- A helmet that can rotate or move on your head in any other fashion does not fit you properly.
- With the chinstrap fastened and snugly secure, please pull up at the center rear of the helmet. A properly fit helmet cannot be removed by pulling up at the center rear.
A question we are asked often is what size do I choose if I’m between sizes?
First, keep in mind that our helmet does not utilize rigid foam but a fluid liner. This means it will conform to your head with some give. So with that in mind, the following is merely a suggestion. Ultimately, you should choose what you think is best for you but here are some tips.
TIP #1: If you measure between 22″ and say, 22.25″, then we would suggest still going with the medium. It will have a snug fit and the large may have too much space for you. Again, the helmet will eventually conform (with some flex) to your head.
Tip #2: If your head measures over the end measurement (ex 22″) but you tend to wear something over your head that is bulky like a leather doo rag than the lower size may not be right.)
Tip #3: Not every head is created equal. So, let’s say you measure 22″ and get a medium, if you have a considerably longer top then, you still may want to go up in size.
THE MEASUREMENTS ARE FROM STANDARD OVAL DOT HEAD FORMS THAT IS WHAT WE TEST ON. Rounder heads and taller heads may not fit exactly. AGAIN, these are just suggestions and you must make your own judgement.
